PARTICIPATE IN THE PARADE
Plans are underway for the 2023Chestertown Tea Party Festival. We invite you to participate in the Festival’s popular parade on Saturday, May 27, 2023.
The Festival commemorates Chestertown’s historical past. When the citizens of Chestertown learned that the British had closed the port of Boston in retaliation for Bostonians dumping tea into the harbor, they issued “The Chestertown Resolves” which stated that is was illegal to import, sell or consume tea. According to local lore, on May 23rd, 1774, the citizens’ of Chestertown gathered at the town center, marched down High Street to the brigantine Geddes, and tossed her cargo of tea into the Chester River.
In addition to witnessing the re-enactment of the “Tea Party”, visitors can enjoy more than 100 craft vendors, local food, children’s activities, historical walking tours and a wide array of musical entertainment. One of the highlights of the weekend is, without doubt, the colonial parade.
We hope that you will join us and entertain the thousands of spectators that will line the parade route.
Please CLICK HERE for the Parade Registration Form and return it to us no later than Sunday May 7, 2023. Since this is a colonial parade, please be aware that all entries must have a colonial theme and the use of motorized vehicles is restricted to tractors pulling floats.
At the end of the parade, our jury will award a number of prizes.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at parade@chestertownteaparty.org. Thank you in advance for your participation. We look forward to seeing you in May!
Sincerely,
Missy Yachup
